The Forerunner 965 is the flagship running watch: 1.4″ AMOLED, titanium bezel, full colour maps and 32 GB of storage — and it still manages 31 hours of GPS. It is the best battery-to-weight combination in this group.
That 23-day smartwatch figure assumes the gesture display. Turn on always-on and it drops sharply, as it does on every AMOLED Garmin.

Official Garmin figures, gesture-activated display unless noted. Real battery life depends on the features you have enabled — GPS mode, music, Pulse Ox and always-on display all cost hours.

Is it the right watch for your running?
The best battery-to-weight ratio here: 31 hours of GPS and 23 days of smartwatch use in a 53 g watch with full maps and multi-band GPS. The default choice for a marathoner who wants everything.
Buy it if you want maps, music, multi-band GPS and a week-plus between charges without moving to a heavy adventure watch. If you do not need maps or music storage, the Forerunner 265 does most of this for less money.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the Forerunner 965 battery last in GPS mode?
Up to 31 hours in GPS-only mode without music, per Garmin’s specifications. With music playback that drops to about 10.5 hours.
What is UltraTrac mode?
A lower-power GPS mode that records fewer position points. Garmin rates the 965 at up to 34 hours in UltraTrac with wrist heart rate — useful for very long efforts where absolute track accuracy matters less.
How much does using maps and music cost?
A lot. Continuous music playback roughly halves GPS endurance, and live map rendering is one of the biggest drains on any Garmin with mapping.
